Offering just-in-time delivery of quality medical, laboratory, scientific, office, janitorial supplies and related equipment.

In 1991, the first of the GCI family of companies, The Premier Group, began in a bedroom of JW Gibson’s mother’s house. JW researched the Mid-South market and discovered that the number one revenue producing industry was and continues to be the medical industry, but no locally owned healthcare distribution network supported the industry.

JW established Premier Group as a local distributorship of medical supplies and laboratory and scientific equipment. He soon discovered that small distributorships like his were at a disadvantage because, unlike national distributorships, they did not have access to the Group Purchasing Organization’s (GPO) contract. To create a level playing field, JW became president of the Minority Medical Supply Association in 1998 and lobbied for small businesses to have equal access to the contract. JW’s efforts were successful and today small and large distributorships nationwide operate on equal footing when it comes to contract pricing with GPO’s.

Through its relationships with master distributors, The Premier Group serves as a leading distributor locally and nationally for the medical, laboratory and scientific equipment,   office, janitorial supplies, and related equipment.  As a local business, The Premier Group provides urgent, just-in-time deliveries 365 days a year. It’s the ability to deliver in a moment’s notice that sets The Premier Group apart from the competition and is how the company enhances the Mid-South’s medical industry.
Adding value to inner-city neighborhoods through housing and economic development.

Southeast Regional Development Corporation (SRDC), the second company under GCI, was formed when JW Gibson’s pastor asked him to work with the church to develop an independent living facility for the congregation’s elderly in Whitehaven. Realizing that funding for this venture would be a challenge, JW created SRDC as a social enterprise in order to take full advantage of the various government programs in place to support the building of a quality housing community for members of a certain age and income bracket.

For JW, his pastor’s request had multiple appeals, including the ability to improve the value of an inner city neighborhood and create pride in the community. The land that was earmarked for the development was a sewage dump. After having the soil tested and determining the land was safe for building, SRDC built a retainer wall to reroute the sewage and protect the property. SRDC then built Westwood Manor, 48 cottages designed for the ease and convenience of the elderly. The rental units filled within a month and continue to have a waiting list. SRDC handled the initial management of Westwood Manor and connected with the Council for Aging to offer programs for the residents before turning management over to the church.

JW wanted to do more for the Whitehaven community. He met with neighborhood associations and community groups to get their input on how to improve the quality of life in the area. Based on their input, JW selected a wooded area that served as a dumping ground for trash along with an unusual number of couches and transformed it into a housing development called Wesley Forest.

In Wesley Forest, SRDC constructed 165 townhomes, the first multifamily units in the Whitehaven area in more than 40 years, along with 65 single-family homes, 20% of which were set aside for qualified, low-income families. The quiet Wesley Forest neighborhood has not only made the community safer, it has increased commerce in and around the area.  SRDC continues to focus on redeveloping inner city neighborhoods and improving property values. Recent projects include the James Lee House and The Chisca Hotel.

Tec-Print image
Tec-Print, the third company under GCI, came about when JW Gibson learned that the State of Tennessee was considering the possibility of introducing the lottery or game of chance. JW had a gut feeling the lottery would be approved, so he started doing his homework. He began attending conferences about lotteries and developed relationships with people in the lottery industry. He learned all he could about what was required to print lottery tickets – from the machinery to the security.

When Tennessee approved a state lottery, the government did so with a stipulation that the tickets be printed in the state. When the RFP was issued, Tec-Print was ready. Unlike the competition, JW knew how to manage the expectations for lottery ticket production and laid it out clearly in the RFP. His main stipulation was that if he was awarded the RFP, he would need 120 days to put everything in place.

Despite the fact that Tec-Print had no history of printing, the company’s vision for how to manage the complex production of lottery tickets made it stand out. Based on its integrity and ability to clearly lay out how it would meet the state’s stringent registration and lab testing requirements, Tec-Print won the print bid for the Tennessee State Lottery tickets over 25 competitors and 115 days later was in operation.

Tec-Print has since expanded its scope to include diversified printing, label and specialty paper. The company offers both offset and digital full service printing and graphic art design for any size business at a competitive price. Tec-Print’s responsive approach resolves even the most specialized printing and labeling challenges.

The company’s advanced equipment handles a variety of sizes with up to eight-color printing, including sequential numbering and security features, while the latest video web inspection technology assures perfection every time. Tec-Print is among the only roll print specialists to boast instantaneous UV drying technology.

With a proven record of meeting even the tightest deadlines, Tec-Print has one of the highest on-time delivery rates in the print industry at 99.6%. In addition, the company’s relationships with national carriers mean low shipping rates based on single location shipping combined with all Tec-Print shipping.
